Freeze Frame Walkthrough

Side mission: Freeze Frame

You can start the Freeze Frame Side Story in Control Resonant within the first hour of the game, but don’t expect to finish it in nearly that short a time. You’ll be looking for a pesky teleporting camera across many of the game’s early zones, guided only by some snapshots and your knowledge of the map. Don’t worry, though. We’ll show you everywhere you need to go to complete Freeze Frame in Control Resonant.

How to Start Freeze Frame

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Start.jpg

There are two ways to start Freeze Frame: either run into a camera that freezes you in place somewhere in the world, or find a strange photograph or two in a particular zone. As of writing, there are confirmed photographs in all three of the four initial areas of the game: Central, Evacuation Zone, West Incursion Zone. Odds are, there are more as you continue to progress.

These photos show the location directly in front of the camera, and look out on some major point of interest in that particular zone. You need to use your knowledge of major landmarks to find the camera, then complete a small platforming or traversal challenge to get behind it before it can teleport away.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in Downtown

Oddly, while Downtown is the first zone you visit, you won't be able to find the instant photos until you reach the Recursions and Iterations mission around the midway point in the main story quest.

Control Resonant Downtown Instant Photos.jpg

Once you do, you can find the instant photos on a desk next to Pope's whiteboards in the Oldest House.

You'll also need all of your traversal abilities to access the two camera locations in Downtown. Reach from the Evacuation Zone Fault will get you over the eastern wall where one waits. Then, you need Shift from the West Incursion Zone Fault to go the northwestern area where the other one is.

How to Reach the Frozen Monsters Camera in Downtown

Control Resonant Downtown Reach Elevator.jpg

To start, head to the northeastern section of Downtown. That's s the only place where you can Reach onto the edge of the elevator and traverse over the wall.

Control Resonant Downtown Eastern Camera.jpgControl Resonant Downtown Eastern Camera Location.jpg

The camera itself is in the southern section of the walled off area, and the only door where you can reach it needs power to open.

Control Resonant Downtown Power Core Station.jpg

Luckily, there's a power core station near where you enter.

Control Resonant Downtown Power Core.jpg

Grab some power, then make your way southeast over the rooftops. There's a power core where you can temporarily deposit the electricity to reset the timer.

Control Resonant Downtown Eastern Camera Door.jpg

Power up again and continue south, then turn west until you see a small office container with a power core near the door. Deposit the power to open the door and get behind the camera.

How to Reach the Birds and Buildings Camera in Downtown

Control Resonant Downtown Western Camera Shift Street.jpg

The picture with the birds and the Patterned, upside down buildings is in the northwestern section of Downtown, and you'll need the Shift ability from the West Incursion Zone Fault to access it. Head to either of the streets leading northeast and use Shift to walk up them.

Control Resonant Downtown Western Camera Doors.jpgControl Resonant Downtown Western Camera Location.jpg

Reaching northwestern Downtown is just the first step. From there, head southwest toward the far corner. You're liable to see the camera in an upside down room across a large gap.

Control Resonant Downtown Western Camera Shift Street 2.jpg

The easiest way to get behind the camera is to jump across the street, let it freeze you, and head to the road on the other side of the gap. You can then Shift onto the vertical street, then onto the rooftop above the camera.

Control Resonant Downtown Western Camera Metal Doors.jpgControl Resonant Crush Ability.jpg

You will need a specific ability to breach the steel double doors, however. The easiest to access is the Crush Secondary ability that lets you wield a giant hammer. Either of the abilities you earn from the Dancer Resonant fight work as well.

Control Resonant Downtown Western Camera.jpg

However you breach the doors, you can then drop down and close the camera lens.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in Central

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Central Pictures.jpg

You can find the two Freeze Frame pictures for the Central Region in the FBC field office. Specifically, once you’re in the building, head to the back end, past the planning table where you pick up the level one security keycard. You’ll find them on a desk on the right next to a brown pillar, a plant, and a bank of camera rolls.

How to Reach the Watchtower Camera in Central

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Central Watchtower Camera Location.jpg

The first place you find a camera is in the Watchtower, where Zoe gives you your mission and points out the first few places you need to explore.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Stair-r.jpg

From her office overlook, turn left (east), then make your way to the bottom of the staircase.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Hall-r.jpg

At the bottom, head west toward the darkly orange-lit room and follow the path around until you have to jump up some scaffolding. You’re likely to run into the camera there. It will freeze you in place for a few seconds, then disappear.

To complete this section of Freeze Frame, you need to get behind the camera and close the shutter. Luckily, doing so is simple this time.

To get behind the camera in the watchtower, return to the bottom of the scaffolding to make it reappear (if necessary).

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Ceiling Hole.jpg

Return to the same level as the camera, then look above the scaffolding to see a hole in the ceiling.

Double jump up through it, and follow the upper path south until you reach another set of deep-orange lights. Drop down and you’ll find yourself behind the camera.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Behind Camera Watchtower.jpg

Walk up and interact with it from behind to close the shutter and send it off to another section of the game.

How to Reach the Camera Across from the City That Never Stops Sign

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Camera Across from Sign-location.jpg

There are two ways to reach this camera.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Central Parking Lot Reach Point.jpg

The first is to have the Reach ability gained from the Fault in the Evacuation Point zone. There’s a grapple point on the south side of the parking lot structure you can use.

The second is to go through the parking lot itself. The entrance you can access from the ground is on the west side, near the path toward the West Incursion Zone checkpoint.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Blue Truck.jpg

From the central plaza, head southeast and look for a blue semi truck and an Available sign on the side of a brick building.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Central Parking Lot Reach Entrance.jpg

Turn south from the truck and you’ll see the rear entrance to the parking lot. You’ll need to fight your way up to the top level, clearing each floor as you go. Once you reach daylight again, remove all the Hiss from the rooftop and look north across the street.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Camera Across from Sign-r.jpg

The camera waits inside an open doorway. To reach it, jump across and let it freeze you, then use the staircase behind it to enter the warehouse.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Behind Sign Camera.jpg

Allow the camera time to reappear, then head back up the staircase and close the shutter.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in the Evacuation Zone

To find the pictures in the Evacuation Zone, head to the eastern section of the area, where you go to investigate the tremors during the main story campaign.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evac Zone Picture Container.jpg

In front of the building spewing spooky red light, you’ll see two raised, orange portable offices. You need to go into the western one.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evac Zone Picture 1.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Picture 2.jpg

You can find the first of the two cards on the standing printer, and the second on the back-left table.

How to Reach the Camera Facing the Wall

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Wall Camera Location-r.jpg

One of the Evacuation Zone Freeze Frame pictures shows the camera facing a low wall, with a sign saying “Fired over nothing” barely visible in the background. That's in the far western portion of the map, an almost straight shot from the Power Core Station in the far east.

You’ll need to carry some electricity from the Station from the bright-red building along the street, all the way west to the door behind the camera. If you're using the map as a guide, you want to follow the street that runs directly north of the marker noted as “Unauthorized mines?”

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Power Core.jpg

Attack one of the power cores to charge the Abberant, then proceed a little way west. You’ll need to platform your way up onto the roof of a building on the south side of the road, where you’ll find another Power Core. Deposit the charge there to reset its timer, then attack the core again to reclaim the charge.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Door Core.jpg

Drop back down to street level, and continue west. You’ll see a core on your left before you reach the double doors.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Elevator Core.jpg

Deposit the charge and pick it back up as before, and keep heading west, through the double doors, past the parking lot on your left, until you reach a pair of unpowered elevators. Bank the charge.

Now’s the final hurdle. Grab the charge and go west to the end of the road. Use the parked semi truck to gain a little height, and jump up onto the platform on the south side of the road.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evacuation Zone Core Door.jpg

From there, jump across to the lower rooftop on the other side of the street and deposit the charge next to the door, unlocking it.

All that’s left now is to close the camera shutter.

How to Reach the Camera Facing Construction

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evactuation Zone Wall Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Evactuation Zone Mold Building Camera Location.jpg

The second Freeze Frame Camera in the Evacuation Zone is in the far north of the region, near the Railyard Street Station. Specifically, you’re looking for a building southeast of the station and the fast travel door of the same name.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evactuation Zone Wall Camera Building.jpg

The building is on the southeast corner, across from the construction site. There’s a massive amount of blue mold growing near where you need to go, as well.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Evactuation Zone Behind Camera.jpg

Let the camera see you to open the way into the building behind it, then head to the bottom floor to activate the elevator. Leave the building briefly to let the camera reappear and you’re free to go back up to the rooftop door and close the shutter behind it.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in the West Incursion Zone

Control Resonant Freeze Frame House of Mirrors.jpg

The instant photos in the West Incursion Zone are easy to find. They're in the House of Mirrors theater in the northeastern section of the region. You'll need to head that way to activate the map kit pylon anyway, so it's on your way.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame West Incursion Zone Photos.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame West Incursion Zone Photo Location.jpg

Head into the theater and go toward the back wall with the movie posters. You'll find the two photos on a table beneath said posters.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in The Park

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Instant Photos Location.jpg

To get the instant photos in The Park, you need to reach the FBC base in the eastern section of the zone. However, the path from the central area is inaccessible from the west without further exploration.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Garage.jpg

You'll need to approach the base from the east, which means going through the parking garage, then the sewers, and finally up the platforms to the base.

Control Resonant The Last Taxi Park Acid Exit.jpg

Head into the garage and use the door in the lower yellow mold area to reach the northern section of The Park.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Sewer Tunnel.jpg

Once you're out of the garage, turn right and enter the sewer tunnel beyond the raised container-office.

Control Resonant FBC Base Sewer Sign.jpg

Follow the tunnels around to the south until you enter a large room with more acrid yellow mold on your left. Jump up onto the higher platform and you'll see "FBC" written on the wall with an arrow underneath it. Continue south, then turn back west with the tunnels.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park White Tunnel.jpg

Eventually, you'll leave the sewer and see a large, bright path to your left, leading south.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Platforms.jpg

Hop on top of the blue semi and then onto the stationary elevators to reach the base at the top.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Instant Doors.jpg

You'll find the instant photos in a room behind a set of blue doors. You might need to smash the double metal doors on top of the room to get in.

Control Resonant FBC Base The Park Instant Photo Table.jpgControl Resonant FBC Base The Park Instant Photo Crate.jpg

One photo is on a box near the main doors, another on a table near a radio at the back of the room.

How to Reach the Camera with the Mold Enemies

This camera is hiding in the subway tunnels in the far south of The Park. To reach it, you first need to find the subway entrance, which is marked as the Nomad Avenue Station on the in-game map.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Camera Location.jpg

Head down into the subway and you'll eventually run into the camera on your right. Unfortunately, there's no good way to get behind it without a significant detour.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Path to Station.jpg

Continue past the camera down the stairs, onto and across the subway platform, and up the stairs at the other end.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Mold Door.jpg

You'll encounter a mold-covered door at the end of the platform at the top of the stairs. You need a fire ability from the Central Resonant to burn it down.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Door.jpg

Provided you can burn the Mold barrier, continue through the door and to your right, down the hall to the red door.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Subway Camera Shut.jpg

Proceed through the red door and through the acrid yellow Mold hall to reach behind the camera.

How to Reach the Camera with the Birds and Bars

You can find another camera in The Park near the FBC base and the southern sewer entrance in the eastern region of The Park. Getting to it is frighteningly simple.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Camera Location.jpg

The camera itself is on a movable platform above the southern entrance to the sewers and seems inaccessible.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Elevator.jpg

You'll need to power an elevator west of the camera to reach high enough to float over to the platform it's on.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Camera Power Core.jpg

The closest power supply is south of the elevator, in the incredibly well-lit passage with the blue semi. You're looking for the lights that grow clumps of Mold. There's an active power core there you can siphon from.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Camera Upper Platform.jpg

Charge the Abberant with electricity, then book it back to the uncharged power core to the north. You can then ride the elevator up to the proper height and float over to the platform above the camera.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame The Park Sewer Entrance Camera SHut.jpg

From there, it's a simple matter of dropping down behind the little thing and closing the lid.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in the Underpass

While the Underpass can be a nightmare to navigate, finding the zone's Instant Photos isn't. Shortly after you enter, you should arrive at a remarkably well-lit tower. If you have the in-game map for the Underpass, this is The Spire.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Instant Photos.jpg

You can find both photos on desks beneath the tents in the encampment on the northern side of the Spire.

How to Reach the Camera with the Floating Enemies

The easier of the two cameras to find in the Underpass is just a hop and a skip from The Spire in its southern region.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Yellow Hall.jpg

From the Spire, head back north toward where you entered the Underpass and look to the east. You'll see a yellow-lit hole in the side of the column. That's where you'll find the camera.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Floating Hiss Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Floating Hiss Camera Location.jpg

Approach the hole and let the camera freeze you, then go up to the edge of the platform that faces it.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Reach Point 2.jpg

If you look down and to the left of the hole, you should see a Reach grapple point. Use it to reorient yourself onto the red-carpeted platform.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Hole Corruption.jpg

Drop through the hole in the floor and deal with any enemies.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Frozen Hiss Camera.jpg

Interact with the camera in the yellow-lit hall to complete this photo.

How to Each the Camera with the Pole and Spire in the Distance

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Island Beyond Tubes.jpg

The second camera we'll cover is a bit further into the level. From the Spire, head west toward the Underpass Fault. However, rather than dropping into Tubes Island, continue south across the gap to the unmarked island.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Distant Spire Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Distant Spire Camera Location.jpg

The camera here is near an active Mold infestation, but that's more an annoyance than anything. Instead, you need to make your way around the outer walls of the mold section.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Stairs Around.jpg

Start in the southeast end of the moldy floor. There, you'll see some platforms leading around the outside of the island. Follow them.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Reach Point.jpg

Eventually, you'll be able to see a Reach point near an office. Use it and you'll shift upside down.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Hole Carpet.jpg

Take the red-carpeted hall around to the north, then Shift onto the red wall, and continue following the edge of the island. You'll eventually see a hole in the floor to your left.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Underpass Behind Distant Spire Camera.jpg

Drop through the hole and just as you reorient below it, you can jump into the small hall behind the camera.

Where to Find the Instant Photos in the the Unknown

How to Reach the Camera looking through a Mold Hole

It can be a rough time finding the camera in the Unknown looking through a hole in a wall covered in Mold. You'll need to have made a lot of upgrades at the Gap, as you need to clear a significant combat encounter just to access it.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera Location.jpg

The camera itself is in central region of the Unknown, in a Patterned construction area at its northern reaches. If you wander the area on the outer edge of the construction site, you're liable to be captured by the camera, so getting inside is priority one.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera Construction.jpgControl Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera Shift.jpg

Your first order of business it to get on top of the site, then use Shift to reorient yourself such that you're standing on the "ceiling." You know you've got it right when the rebar sticking out of the incomplete red columns is sticking "up," not "down."

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Floor.jpg

Hop down onto the "lowest" level of the site with the field of red columns is, then further down into the Mold-covered "floor."

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera Stairs.jpg

Look for a staircase leading "down" into the building. Take it until you reach a hole int he floor, then drop down. The large chamber near where you land is a massive combat arena with very difficult enemies, so be prepared for a fight.

Control Resonant Freeze Frame Unknown Mold Camera Shut.jpg

The camera is at the other end of the arena from the hole you dropped from, and is only safely accessible after you finish the fight. Provided you do, you can easily shut the lid and proceed with finding other cameras.
