Investigate the Subway in the Evacuation Zone
Your quest to discover the Subway Fault likely began in Recursions and Iterations, when Dylan Faden was stopped dead in his tracks by a chasm he couldn't cross. This befuddlement led him back to the Evacuation Zone, where the Board hints that the Fault has something to do with trains.
When you're ready to begin, travel to the Evacuation Zone. The Subway Fault lies north of the Evac Building. Looking at the map, if you have the mission unlocked, you'll spot the quest marker hovering over an intersection to the north marked Railyard Street Station.

To reach the station, travel northeast along the streets until you discover a building swarming with blue Mold. It's just to the southwest of the station on the map.

Head inside, where you'll find yourself in an Arena Encounter against multiple Mold Heavies. Clear the enemies to remove the Mold blocking the exit.

When the coast is clear, enter the doorway on the bottom level of the building lit by a yellow light. Through the doorway is a staircase — take it up.

Resource Crate Locations
In a room left of the stairs in the Mold-covered building, you'll find a Resource Crate.

The next Resource Crate can be found up the stairs. Turn left after ascending the first staircase to spot a door blocked by Mold webbing.
Use a fire-based Combat Ability to burn through the webbing and enter the room, where you'll find the Resource Crate.

Ascend the winding stairs to the rooftop.
Dylan's Sketchbook Location - Dream House
On the southern corner of the rooftop of the Moldy building is a collection of boards and objects that Dylan can make into a house to draw in his sketchbook.
If you decide to complete the ensemble, search the rooftop for objects such as planks and more. You can spot them on the radar as puzzle piece icons.

Collect all the pieces and interact with it for Dylan to draw the house.

You can find the sketch in the Archives menu under the Dylan's Sketchbook section. The drawing looks...cozy.

Head to the eastern corner of the rooftop and look out toward the buildings covered in blue Mold. An eerie green glow emanates from the location. This is where you want to go to find the Fault.

When you're ready, drop to the street and continue east until you reach the entrance to the Railyard Street Station, where a vision of Jesse appears, confirming that you're in the right spot.

Fast Travel Door Location
You can find the Railyard Street Fast Travel Door west of the Railyard Street Station. While looking at the station, turn around and enter the open area on the right side of the street where you'll find the Fast Travel door.

When you're ready to descend, take the stairs down into the station.

Resource Crate Location
Before entering the subway platform, take a right after the stairs in the Railyard Street Station to find a Resource Crate.

Continue down until you reach the subway platform, where you'll locate an Orientation Point. Head down the subway tunnel where you see a blue light.

Resource Crate Location
After entering the subway tunnel at the Railyard Street Station, stop and look to the left for a Resource Crate.

Progress until you discover a subway train going... up? That's right, two subway trains are going straight up. A train appears roughly every three seconds, with a second one just behind it. Wait for both trains to pass and then dash over the vertical tunnel.

The walls of the train tunnels are Gravity Anomaly surfaces, which you can latch onto to make your perspective of the trains horizontal, if you find that makes it easier to avoid them.
Continue until you reach more trains going up. This time, there are two sets of two trains. Pass the first set and then do it again with the next.
Blue Mold appears once more after you get past the final trains. To the left, you'll pass a door that opens from the other side.

Hop onto the ledge and peer down to view a subway tunnel going into the ground.

The tracks are a Gravity Anomaly surface so, instead of dropping like a rock, use Shift to latch onto and follow them down.

When you reach the bottom, quickly get off the tracks! A train starts flying down that tunnel. You won't be able to return that way.

Clamber up the ledge and enter the doorway. You'll Shift back to normal gravity once you're inside.

Continue down the tunnel until you run into Mold monsters, including a Heavy. Take them out and then climb up the ledge.

Resource Crate Location
You'll find a Resource Crate waiting for you past the Gravity Anomaly train tunnel on the ledge above an old train car. Leap onto the ledge and take a right to find the crate.
Turn left and continue to the next area. This place is sideways as you approach, so use Shift to latch onto the surface to your left.

You'll soon find yourself on a ledge overlooking another train tunnel. Drop down and get ready to enter it, but don't do it yet.

An oncoming subway train speeds through the tunnel. Wait for it to pass and then enter the tunnel, but use the short platforms on the right side to get out of the way before the next train arrives.

Do this for three platforms and then exit the tunnel. Climb onto the tall ledge to the right.

Enter the Mold tunnel, which shifts your position as you go along. Take a right after the tunnel to enter a hallway.

Progress until you reach a Mold-infested room with more Mold enemies. Go inside and finish the Arena Encounter to leave.

Head down the tunnel. After a left turn, another vision of Jesse appears. Continue going until you reach a ledge overlooking a large room covered in moving and stationary trains.

To find the Dimensional Fault, you need to reach the bottom of the train-filled chasm below. Yes, the bottom. All the way down. It's deep. Here's how.

As you look into the space, you'll see stationary and moving trains. You must use the stationary trains like platforms while avoiding the moving trains. Wait for a moving train to pass before flying to the nearest stationary train.

From there, turn around and look down to spot the next stationary train. Drop down and continue the descent.

Again, you must go all the way to the bottom. You'll know you made it when you reach a stationary car that overlooks what appears to be a Mold-covered section with Mold heavies. Drop down to it and clear the enemies.

After the area is clear of threats, follow the tracks, which lead you to another subway tunnel. Head inside and follow the tunnel as it veers left.

Enter the Fault
A vision of Jesse appears as you approach the end of the tracks and, in the distance, you can spot the CRT TV waiting for you. At last!

Hop down and head to the TV. Interact with it to enter the Dimensional Fault.
Find and Talk to Jesse
The Fault is, of course, subway-themed. Follow the tracks running through the yellow grass and leaves and progress until you reach a subway platform, where you'll find Jesse.

Speak with Jesse. For a moment, she seems to not recognize Dylan. After he says his name, she remembers and reminds him that the Dimensional Fault "takes pieces from you." Clearly, it's been affecting her memory.

Help Jesse Complete the Ritual
Jesse disappears after the chat, leaving Dylan on his own again. Head up the stairs and stop at the end. Here, you unlock a new traversal ability: Reach.

If you recall seeing those odd, swirling orbs around the city or in other spots during missions, this is the explanation. Those are Reach Points, which you can pull yourself towards by pressing the left thumbstick as a button or the R key on a keyboard.
Look up toward the ledge in the distance. You should see the button/key prompt. Press it to zip over the gap and land on the ledge.

Progress through the Fault, using Reach to zip up and down to ledges.
Continue until you end up at a gap too far for Reach alone. For these moments, you must run and leap over the edge, using Dodge and Elevate until you're close enough to the Reach Point to grab it.
![]() | ![]() |
Reach points change your perspective if they're on a Gravity Anomaly surface. When you get to a section where the Reach Point is on a wall, use Reach to zip to the point, and you'll latch onto the surface automatically.
![]() | ![]() |
Continue through the Fault, using Reach to progress across Gravity Anomaly surfaces and wide gaps to islands in the black.
You'll soon reach the final TV. Interact with it to finish the ritual, leaving Jesse on the ground. She doesn't recognize Dylan again, prompting him to try to jog her memory. Before that happens, she disappears, and Dylan is out of the Fault.

This ends The Subway Fault. Completion rewards you with x1 Living Shard and 600 Zone XP.
How to Leave the Subway
Now that you have Reach unlocked, you can use it to quickly fly up the deep chasm from earlier. Use it to latch onto the trains and ledges.
Later, you can use Reach to travel along the tunnel with the speeding train by latching onto Reach Points on the ground.
