Why a map marker is unreachable: district maps, zone level, Search for Jesse traversal, and Pope's Research platforms in Unknown.

New districts open with the story. If a marker is still locked, you usually need the local map revealed, a higher zone level, a Search for Jesse traversal ability, or Pope's Research platforms in Unknown.

Story progress

Manhattan opens in chapters. Follow the highlighted story marker first. Optional districts can look reachable on the compass while a gate, mold wall, or missing ability still blocks the path.

Reveal the district

If icons are missing, reveal the district. See How to Unlock the Map and Mapping the New New York.

Zone level

Some areas are hostile until the zone level rises. How to Level Up Zones covers the in-game system without inventing XP numbers.

Search for Jesse traversal

Not yet verified: VGTimes side-story notes say Incursion Fault unlocks Shift and Subway Fault unlocks Reach, and several side stories stay unreachable without those. Confirm the ability names in The Gap after each Fault.

Unknown / Act III

If a story marker points at an unreachable island in Unknown, progress Pope's Research so antennas and gravity wells can connect platforms.
